offer a range of truck sizes depending on the number and size of goods, so your
move is more affordable? What type of wrapping and protection materials do they
use, and do they have dollies on hand for different types of furniture? You’ll want
to be sure they are well prepared to handle all your furniture and provide special
care for the more valuable items.
Commercial Moves
While commercial moves have many of the same characteristics and caveats as home
moves, generally the operation is on a much larger scale. You’ll want commercial
furniture movers who can offer a high level of expertise – and who will make
the process as smooth and hassle-free as possible.
Here’s what you should be looking for from commercial movers:
- Supplies. A commercial moving company should come in with crates, blankets,
wrapping and any other supplies necessary to transport office equipment and furniture.
- Manpower. Often, commercial movers will take care of all the packing and
unpacking your office requires, including dismantling and reassembling furniture.
- Professionalism. Commercial movers know the importance of uninterrupted business.
Expect to have a supervisor from the moving company on hand to organize, coordinate
and monitor the move, so your involvement is kept to a minimum.
Interstate Moves
While many moving companies only operate locally, if you’re looking to move from
state to state, you’ll need the help of interstate furniture movers. There are different
regulations for an interstate move that you’ll want to be aware of before you begin
planning.
Interstate moves are federally regulated and are subject to three conditions –
tariff (a tax on imported goods), total weight and distance between start and finish.
Interstate moving companies will obtain the rates for your move from these federal
regulations, and adjust your quote or bill accordingly.

financial area – tipping. While this may seem like an odd area of focus, many
people find themselves at a loss when it’s time to send the
movers on their way.
The truth is, tipping is never something that’s expected, but your movers are working
very hard for you. Based on their level of professionalism, attention to detail
and help in the planning process, you may want to leave them with a little something
extra. Generally, $25 to $50 per person is the “standard” for the average move.
And remember, it never hurts to have some water, soda or beer (to be enjoyed after
hours) on hand, or even a pizza – because a happy mover is an attentive mover!
